THE HARMONISERS AND DUNCAN WHINYATES
The Harmonisers were fortunate to be able welcome
Duncan Whinyates to their last rehearsal of 2009.
Duncan, who is a gifted Vocal and barbershop coach, was
in Spain at the request of The Spangles Ladies
Barbershop Chorus to give them a weekend of coaching
sessions.
Duncan had a few hours free on Tuesday 8th December and
the Spangles MD, Gail Grainger, was able to offer the
Harmonisers Duncan's services for our rehearsal.

Duncan Whinyates started singing barbershop when
he was 8 (25 years ago). He was one of BABS
youngest gold medallists with his first quartet ‘The
Likely Lads’ as the tenor.
Due to work commitments he had a break of 4 years
from barbershop but returned a year ago to take on
the directorship of his old chorus ‘Anvil Chorus’.
He took them to 8th at the 2009 convention their
highest ever place. He currently is singing lead
with a new quartet ‘Crossfire’.
They were placed 2nd in the 2009 prelims and are
hoping to win a medal at convention in May 2010.
Duncan is an inspiring trainer and we had an
interesting and instructive two hours. Duncan's
teaching style suited our chorus and we learned
a lot in a short time as well as having a lot of
fun. The Chorus found Duncan a great motivator,
so much so we hope to arrange a return, but
longer visit later in 2010.
